A Grab Bag of New Content! Version 0.8.4 is Live!

Hello Duelists!

We've released a pretty chunky update today, with lots of new content and some balance changes to both system mechanics and characters.

Some highlights of this update are:

  • A new stage, Penny Avenue
  • A new minigame, Target Training
  • Changes to Reversals, air blocking, and aerial backdashes
  • New costumes
  • New Missions
  • and lots of bug fixes!

The next big update will be 0.9.0, which will add the game's next playable fighter, Lance Marshall! His gun-slinging skills will take a good while longer to polish up, but in the meantime, we hope you enjoy this smaller update to tide you over!

Here are the full patch notes:

New Music

  • Added a new music track: Hit the Streets! (Preliminary Battle)

Reversals

  • Changed all characters’ standing Reversals to have a minimum of 21 frames of startup (up from 14 frames). Characters who previously had longer Reversal startup still have startup longer than 21 frames. Boss characters' Reversals are untouched
  • Added some additional VFX when using a Reversal
  • Fixed an issue where dashing into a player using a Reversal would cause them to slide across the screen
  • Fixed an issue where whiffing a Reversal after whiffing a Break Burst would briefly put your character into the air
  • Fixed an issue where whiffing a Break Burst after landing a Reversal would cause your character to not enter the whiff recovery animation

Air Blocking

  • If you block an attack in the air, blockstun now lasts approximately 25% longer compared to blocking an attack on the ground

Light Attacks

  • Most characters have had the animation length of their light attacks reduced, making them recover faster than before. Specific changes are in each character section
  • Light attacks now inflict greater blockstun against airborne opponents

Aerial Backdashes

  • Aerial backdashes can now be cancelled with any air attack after 5 frames

Getup

  • Fixed an issue where, after getting up from a knockdown state (either with a neutral getup or a roll), there was sometimes a single frame where you were unable to jump, leading to meaty grabs being unavoidable

Throw Break

  • Fixed an issue where throw breaks could still be activated even if the throw was interrupted by other means

Burst

  • Fixed an issue where Bursting during the crumple animation would cause you to be put into permanent hitstun the next time you were crumpled
  • Visual effects of Bursts will now properly freeze during cinematics, instead of continuing to play
  • Fixed an issue where Bursting during a throw tech would result in a Blast Burst
  • Fixed an issue where the crumple limit would not be reset after landing a Blast Burst

Miscellaneous

  • If any player’s controller disconnects mid-match, the game will now automatically pause with a warning telling you which controller disconnected. You do not have to reconnect the controller to continue, but one of the players has to manually unpause
  • While the game is in focus, the mouse cursor will no longer remain visible on the game window if a controller is connected

NEW STAGE

  • Added a new stage: Penny Avenue

Lore Journal

  • Added new NPC Lore entries
    • Warrez Skyhawk, Joseph Underwood, and Joel Kazou are unlocked by playing 5 matches on Penny Avenue
    • Vicky Ambrosia and Chef Mick Rowave are unlocked by playing 10 matches on Penny Avenue

Pause Menu

  • The button assigned as the “Back” button for menu controls can now be used to unpause the game, in addition to the assigned “Start” button

Character Select Screen

  • Fixed multiple sprite layering issues with the control rebinding menu on the character select screen

Minigames

  • Added a new minigame: Target Training ! Break as many targets as you can before time runs out, with some targets requiring specific types of attacks to be broken!
    • This minigame can appear in Arcade Mode, and can also be played on its own from the Minigames menu!
  • Fixed an issue where projectiles were unable to hit objects in the Destruction minigame

Mission Mode

  • Added a fourth page to Mission Mode. The following Missions have been moved to Page 4:
    • Plague Be Upon Ye
    • Snowday Showdown
    • Reverse Horde 3
    • Bullet Bounce Arena
    • A Tough Pill to Swallow
  • Added 4 new Missions, all to Page 3
    • Royal Entertainment
    • Animated Atrocity
    • Buff Boi Bodyguard
    • True Chivalrous Spirit
  • The Mission "Giant Battle" now takes place on the Penny Avenue stage

Training Mode

  • Made some changes to the Visible Hitboxes setting
    • The hitboxes of projectile attacks are now properly displayed
    • Hitboxes and hurtboxes are now fully rendered over the character models, making them much easier to see. Hitboxes (the boxes showing the zone in which attacks will land) are on a higher layer and will partially cover hurtboxes (the boxes showing where the character can get hit)
    • Hitboxes with the “disjointed” property (meaning they do not count as part of the attacker’s hurtbox) are now coloured orange to distinguish them
    • Rattlebone’s sword attack hitboxes when using Chivalrous Spirit are no longer coloured purple, as it was unnecessary, and would have overwritten the aforementioned disjoint colour, making it likely more confusing than helpful
  • Made some changes to the Projectile Data setting
    • Renamed to "Extra Data"
    • Now has an additional box containing data on any special states the player character currently has (such as invincibility or armour), and whether or not an attack is disjointed. This should help newer players understand the properties of specific moves without having to ask what the changing hitbox/hurtbox colours mean

Boss Fights

  • Fixed an issue where boss rematches would never trigger the victory screen, causing the matches to go on forever

NEW COSTUME

  • Added a new costume: Buff Boi Mascot Clyde
    • To unlock, beat the new Mission "Buff Boi Bodyguard"

Standing Light

  • Reduced total animation length (20f  → 19f)
  • Reduced the amount of time the hitbox is active (10f  → 6f)

Jumping Heavy

  • Reduced the amount of time the hitbox is active (20f  → 11f)

Throw

  • Fixed an issue where the move would sometimes whiff at close range on characters with thinner hurtboxes

Standing Light

  • Reduced total animation length (21f  → 19f)

Reversal

  • Fixed an oversight where the first few hits could not break through Armour

Standing Light

  • Reduced total animation length (24f  → 19f)
  • Slightly reduced attack range

The Derrick "Special" (Back Special)

  • The faceplant after using the jumping ender, or after using the move in the air, now has its hitbox active for less time (10f  → 5f)

Rag-Z Costume

  • Locusts now play a sound effect when they spawn in, similar to how their default-costume counterpart Rocky does

Standing Light

  • Reduced total animation length (26f  → 21f)
  • Reduced startup time (8f  → 6f)
  • Slightly reduced hitstun to prevent comboing into itself

Rebel Reversal (Down Special)

  • Fixed an issue where this move could grab disjointed hitboxes as if they were part of the opponent’s hurtbox

Messy Suit Costume

  • Fixed an issue where the shirt occasionally clipped through Red’s neck

Standing Light

  • Reduced total animation length (20f  → 19f)

Crouching Light

  • Reduced total animation length (26f  → 22f)
  • Slightly reduced hitstun to prevent comboing into itself

Orbital Grapple (Special during Darkstar Lariat)

  • Slightly increased the distance Baron travels before the grab comes out. This does not affect the startup time
  • Reduced the amount of time the hitbox is active (8f  → 5f)
  • Fixed an issue where pressing Special repeatedly while inputting the move could sometimes result in the grab coming out automatically the next time Darkstar Lariat was used

NEW COSTUME

  • Added a new costume: King of Diamonds Sylvan
    • To unlock, beat the new Mission "Royal Entertainment"

Jumping Medium

  • Sylvan no longer gains upward momentum from this move if it is used while already rising

Jumping Heavy

  • Reduced the upward velocity applied to Sylvan when using this move

Pick a Card (Jumping Special)

  • Increased recovery time (18f

     → 24f)

  • The card projectiles can now be destroyed if hit by any attack

    [/list]

    Restraining Order (Down Super)

    • Fixed an issue where Sylvan’s Full House Mode timer would briefly remain visible at the start of a match if he won the previous match with Full House active

    Standing Medium

    • Slightly increased hitstun time

    Jumping Medium

    • Slightly increased hitstun time

    Barrel O' Pain (Neutral Special)

    • The explosion hitbox is now a consistent size throughout its active frames, rather than growing in size every frame
    • Fixed an issue where the barrel could explode during Super cinematics if it was activated prior

    Reckless Rush (Back Special)

    • Adjusted hitbox sizes to make the two hits combo more consistently

    Taunt

    • Fixed an issue where pressing down and taunt would make Shiverskull jitter slightly, instead of just doing his normal taunt

    NEW COSTUME

    • Added a new costume: Kendo Gear Yosei
      • Currently unlocked by default

    Miscellaneous

    • Fixed an issue where Yosei’s hurtbox was shrunken during her neutral getup animation

    Painter Costume

    • Fixed some animations where the smock didn’t animate

    Standing Light

    • Reduced total animation length (26f  → 22f)
    • Reduced vertical knockback on airborne opponents
    • Slightly reduced hitstun to prevent comboing into itself

    NEW COSTUME

    • Added a new costume: Armature ERROR
      • To unlock, beat the new Mission "Animated Atrocity"

    Standing Light

    • Reduced total animation length (30f  → 24f)

    Throw

    • Drastically reduced startup time, to bring it more in line with the rest of the cast (22f  → 10f)

    Invalid Action (Neutral Special)

    • After ERROR’s flight time ends, attempting to use aerial Neutral Special will now result in ERROR using the flight version of Invalid Action, instead of no move coming out
    • Reduced recovery time of the flight version (31f  → 20f)

    void Teleport(); (Down Special)

    • Slightly increased the width of the portal’s hitbox, as the previous nerf made it feel a bit *too* small at times

    Taunt

    • Fixed an issue where pressing down and taunt would make Shiverskull jitter slightly, instead of just doing his normal taunt

    New Alt Colour

    • Added a new Colour EX1 for the default costume, referencing the “Notorious Smithson” costume from Schwarzerblitz! (#SmithsonSweep)

    Zorb

    • Fixed an issue where beating Zorb for the first time would also fake-unlock Gigatron, and attempting to select Gigatron in this state would softlock the game

    The Pill

    • Added The Roll
  • Files
