NEW FIGHTER: Lance! Version 0.9.0 is Live!
Lance Marshall joins the fight!
Howdy, pardners! In this here Duels of Fortune update, saddle up to have a hollerin' good time playin' as the newest cowboy on the ranch...
No never mind I will not be writing the patch notes like that.
Anyway, yes, he's FINALLY here! The wild, gunslinging mercenary Lance Marshall
joins the Duels of Fortune roster! Considering this character was first announced nearly 6 years ago (dear lord), he was LONG overdue to be added to the playable cast, and we couldn't be happier to see him in action after all this time!
For a quick overview: Lance is a mid-range zoning
character who uses his arsenal of gun-based attacks to lock down the stage and keep the opponent at bay. Between ricochet shots with Deadeye, access to multiple types of guns with Golden Arsenal, and extra support with HE Grenade, Lance features one of the largest arrays of projectile attacks in the game!
The other major feature of this update is a moveset overhaul for Ember!
We've updated her Spin Attack special move to make it a core mobility tool for her, and we've added several new moves to help flesh out her existing kit! She's feeling like a brand-new slime! Note that some of her moves now have different inputs to accommodate the changes, but she certainly hasn't lost what made her fun before. She's just become much more rich and focused!
Aside from that, this version also adds the usual new costumes, new Missions, and a healthy dose of bug fixes, albeit much less of all three than usual. The characters were really the focus of this update!
Here's the full patch notes:
Music
- Added a new music track: Whistlin' Tumbleweeds (Lance's Theme)
- Added a new music track: Thousand-Year Skeleton War (Rattlebone vs Shiverskull)
- Like with the Shoto vs Yosei theme, this will have a high chance to play when both Rattlebone and Shiverskull are present in a match
Crumple
- Hitting an opponent who is in the crumple state with a move that normally keeps them standing (such as most Light attacks) will now launch them slightly, similar to how OTG hits work
- This is to prevent easy restands, especially with the new character Lance
- Fixed an issue where entering the Crumple state wouldn’t reset the afflicted player’s momentum
Reverse Beat
- Fixed an issue where going airborne during a combo would refresh your grounded Reverse Beat
Lore Journal
- Added a new lore entry for Lance Marshall
Facts
- Added loading screen facts relating to Lance
Penny Avenue
- Fixed an issue where both Bloodhound and Vicky’s umbrella were on the wrong rendering layer, causing them to remain visible during cinematics that normally hide the stage
Mission Mode
- Added two new Missions
- Tumbleweed Takeover
- Shooting Range
- The Mission “True Chivalrous Spirit” has been removed, as it was very bland and uninteresting, and Tumbleweed Takeover has been placed in its slot
- The mission “Stop Right There” has been moved to Page 4
Combo Trials
- All of Ember’s combo trials have been redone, to account for her updated moveset. She also now has 11 total trials, up from the previous 10
- Fixed an issue in Ember's combo trials where the Flying Slime follow-up wouldn’t complete a combo step if it was used too quickly
- Fixed an issue where pressing left or right on the Combo Trials pause menu would prevent you from being able to select the toggleable options at the bottom
- Added a new playable fighter: Lance Marshall
Junk Pull (Down Special)
- Fixed several issues related to using Derrick’s items in the Target Training minigame
Bruiser Beatdown (Neutral Special)
- Fixed an issue where the grab could be Throw Broken, despite being a command grab
NEW COSTUME
- Added a new costume: Mutant War Baron
Trucker Costume
- The hat will now fall off when Baron is KO'd
Full House Mode
- When Sylvan is hit by any projectile in Full House Mode, regardless of if he can teleport it or not, the projectile-teleporting function of Full House Mode now enters a 3-second cooldown, during which Sylvan can be hit by projectiles. Even if the cooldown timer ends, the projectile shield will not come back until Sylvan is not in hitstun
- This change also applies to the Arcade Mode boss fight against Sylvan, and is in fact primarily intended to make that fight more manageable for projectile-focused characters
Ember has received a big moveset overhaul for this update, with several new moves to play around with! Our goal with these changes was to emphasize the character’s slippery movement, make it easier to set a Blob, and give Ember more options for how to utilise the Blob. While some of her moves have had their inputs changed to accommodate the new tools, she hasn’t lost what made her fun before. She just has lots of new options to supplement her existing gameplay!
NEW COSTUME
- Added a new costume: Western Ember
- Unlocked by beating the new Mission “Tumbleweed Takeover”
Standing Heavy
- Increased horizontal knockback
Jumping Medium
- Removed Overhead property
Jumping Heavy
- Fixed an issue where using this move during a long jump would cause its inherent velocity to be overridden by the long jump
Throw
- Fixed an issue where the move wouldn’t position the opponent correctly if it was used too close to the corner
NEW MOVE: Slime Shuffle (Back Light)
- This move can only be used while a Blob is active. Using it will cause the Blob to jump a short distance towards the opponent, allowing you to reposition it
Ayall Anvil (Jumping Down Heavy)
- Removed Hard Knockdown property from the falling hit (the landing hit still has this property)
Spin Attack (Neutral Special)
- Ember now moves faster and further when using Spin Attack, enabling it to become a useful mobility tool. The backward version does not travel as far as the forward version
- The neutral version of Spin Attack now moves Ember forward very slightly, giving it a bit more potential as an anti-air
- Spin Attack can now be used even while you have a Copy Ability, as using a Copy Ability now requires a held Special input
- The homing attack is no longer an augment for Spin Attack, but is instead now a separate follow-up to Spin Attack that functions differently. See the move's dedicated section below
- Increased recovery time upon landing (5f → 10f)
- Removed Hard Knockdown property
NEW MOVE: Gumdrop (S during Spin Attack)
- Ember quickly drops straight down to the ground, placing a Blob where she lands. The move has no hitbox, but provides her with an additional mobility tool, and a new way to place a Blob
- If you already have a Blob active, using this move will not place a new one
NEW MOVE: Homing Attack (S during Spin Attack, while Homing Reticle is active)
- While the Homing Reticle is active and Ember is in range, Gumdrop is replaced by Homing Attack
- Ember rushes straight towards the opponent's position, bouncing off them when she hits them. Making the homing attack a dedicated move allows you to keep making use of Spin Attack's movement even while the Homing Reticle is active, and opens up even more tricky movement itself
Copy Attack (Hold Neutral Special)
- Copy Attack is now performed by holding the Special button. This does inherently result in a slight startup increase when using a Copy Ability compared to before
- Black Heart - The Copy Ability gained from Black Heart has been changed to his Negative Fire special move, as the previous ability (Gelatinous Shadow) became very awkward to use with the new Copy Attack input
- Guy - Fixed an issue where, when using the upward-angled throw, the briefcase wouldn’t hit a second time on the way down like it is supposed to
Slime Trail Mix (Back Special)
- Reduced damage of the grounded attack (1600 → 1400)
- Reduced damage of the Flying Slime follow-up (1000 → 500)
Blob Lob (Down Special)
- Increased the projectile’s gravity, making it travel along its arc faster. This allows you to place Blobs a bit more quickly than before
- Fixed an issue where a blob wedged in the corner would despawn if the camera scrolled too high
NEW MOVE: Needle Blob (Down Special with active Blob)
- This move takes over the previous input for the teleport attack, which now requires a held Down Special input
- This move causes large spikes to emerge from the blob, knocking the opponent either away from Ember or towards her depending on which side of the spikes they are hit by. This gives Ember a brand-new option for how to use her active Blob, allowing her to mix up her options
Teleblob (Hold Down Special with active Blob)
- Ember’s teleport attack, which is now performed with a held Special input. Nothing about the move itself has been altered, though it does now properly have its own name. The animation has been adjusted so that it should have the same startup time as before, even while being a held input
Crash Landing (Neutral Super)
- The move can no longer be Blast Bursted while the ship is falling. This is to fix an issue where Blast Bursting as the ship collided with the ground would cause Ember to not enter the Burst animation
Luck of the Draw (Down Super)
- Fixed an issue where, in an Ember vs Ember mirror match, the player 2 Ember could permanently obtain the Slime Laser ability after a rematch under very specific conditions
- Fixed an issue where the same Copy Ability could appear multiple times in the Luck of the Draw pool
