Tutorial Mode and More! Version 0.10.3 is Live!

Hey Duelists! Duels of Fortune Version 0.10.3 is out now, with the central new feature being the additional of Tutorial Mode! We know many people have been asking for better learning resources for the game, as many new players seem to misunderstand or outright miss lots of core mechanics, so we hope that this mode will be the perfect solution! We've done our best to make the tutorials in a way that gets all the necessary information across concisely, but effectively, while injecting lots of fun personality into the whole experience.

While only the Basics section of the Tutorial is currently finished in its entirety, we are planning to add more tutorials with each update going forward, so eventually the whole thing will be filled out! If you have any suggestions for mechanics or interactions you'd like to see covered in the Advanced section in the future, let us know, because there's a very high chance that we have not thought of everything!

Regarding the next major update

As most of you already know, the next major thing we will be working on is a new guest fighter! However, some complications have come up. Don't worry, the guest fighter will still happen, it just might take a bit longer than expected. Ben has an upcoming surgery scheduled for sometime within the next few weeks (we don't know when!), and he'll be completely out of commission for more than a week afterward. As such, we don't want to commit to any big projects such as a new guest fighter until the recovery period is over, so that we can have a smoother work flow when the time comes. Once again, the guest fighter WILL happen, we just ask that you be a little patient with us for the next few months.

All that being said, here are the full patch notes for the update:

Music

  • The base volume of all music has been slightly lowered

Title Screen

  • The music on the title screen is now properly affected by volume settings

Main Menu

  • Upon the first entry of the main menu after this update, you will now asked if you want to play the tutorial. Pressing "yes" will take you directly to Tutorial Mode

Lore Journal

  • Added new NPC lore entries: Frederick and Captain Sargasso

Character Select Screen

  • If you hold down the costume switch button for a brief moment, you can now access a grid of all currently-unlocked costumes for a character, making costume selection less of a hassle for characters with a lot of them.

  • Added Tutorial Mode! In this mode, you can learn how to play Duels of Fortune, with lessons being given in-character by Master Locks!

    • In the Basic section, you can learn the fundamental mechanics of the game
    • The Advanced section is not currently implemented, but will cover lots of trickier and/or more specific mechanics and interactions that aren't included in the Basic section
    • In the Character-Specific section, you can learn about the mechanics and gimmicks specific to each character. These tutorials are narrated by their respective characters rather than Master Locks! (NOTE: Only Clyde, Annie, and Rattlebone's tutorials are currently available!)
    • More tutorials for the Advanced and Character-Specific sections will be added over time

New Stage

  • Added a new stage: Port of Victory Island! Between the massive cargo ship, the open sea, and the industrial equipment, this makes for one stand-out location for a fight!

Master Locks' Dojo

  • Altered the lighting and animation systems for the background NPCs to be more in line with other stages

New Costume

  • Added a new costume: Karate Clyde (Unlocked by completing the Practical Exam in the Basic section of Tutorial Mode)

Jumping Light

  • Removed the move's Overhead property

Crouching Heavy

  • Fixed an issue where the final hit of the move of the hit didn't count as a launcher, allowing it to be jump cancelled multiple times per combo

New Costume

  • Added a new costume: Dojo Rattlebone (Unlocked by completing the Practical Exam in the Basic section of Tutorial Mode)

Jaw Drop (Jumping Down Heavy)

  • Fixed an issue where the move wouldn't halt Rattlebone's momentum when used out of a long jump
